FAQ
Yes! My adult books have adult content. They are not considered “sweet”. I would say they are about a 3 on the spice scale. There is on page sex and language.
No! My young adult books are very sweet. They have love stories and kissing, but no language or explicit content. My YA books are recommended for middle schoolers and up.
Facts like I hate coffee and look horrible in pale pink? No? Okay, some real facts. My name is Kasie West. I was born on October 23rd on an Airforce Base in California because my dad was in the Airforce. This makes me a BRAT (no really, that’s what they call children born to a full-time military parent). Most of my childhood, I grew up in a little town called Clovis, which is in central California. I graduated from Fresno State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education because my plan was to become a teacher. Then I got married to a lovely man and we had four children. My dream was to stay home and raise them, so I did. While in the process of raising these amazing humans, I started writing. I didn’t know this was also my dream until I tried it and loved it so much. I’ve always loved to read. I’ve been reading books my whole life. Some of my favorite contemporary authors are Jenny Han, Sarah Dessen, Jenn Bennett. And some throw back favs are, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. My first book, Pivot Point, was published in 2013.
Tell your teacher that authors who are still living should be allowed a little privacy. Sheesh. 😉 But let’s see, a few more facts…. I grew up with 4 siblings: Two sisters and two brothers. I’m the second oldest. In the sixth grade I was in cross country. I was really really bad at it though and came in last place pretty much every race. I decided that perhaps it wasn’t my sport after that and retired. I loved to swim but never did it competitively. In high school I was into theater and reading.
Okay, enough about me, how about questions about my books!
It depends. Do they read books with sex and language? Because my adult books have both. I would probably recommend at least 17 and up, but that would be up to you as a parent. And either way, thank you for caring about what your teens read! I love that.
Um….probably not? I really do love that you are all so invested in the characters in my stories that you want to follow more of their lives. It makes me so happy to hear this. And maybe one day I’ll go back and visit some of my more popular novels and write about some side characters. But as for now, all my contemporary novels are stand alones. I love stand alone books. I love for a story to be told and wrapped up between the front and back cover of a single book. But, I promise everything you have questions about works out exactly like you’re imagining it.
I am inspired by many different things. Sometimes it’s a place I visit or a book I read or a movie I watch or a character I imagine. Each book comes about a little differently than the one before it.
(I may have made some assumptions behind the reasoning of the above question) Unfortunately, as much as I love gifts and praise, I do not have a P.O. Box. I had one at one point and found I was entirely too unmotivated to check it.
I will try my hardest. I am in the middle of so many projects right now. But email me some questions. kasie24(at)gmail(dot)com. Well, don’t just email me some questions. First email me and ask me then wait for me to say yes, which will happen only if I have time, then email me some questions. Unfortunately, I’m not great at responding to emails when I’m buried in work and deadlines. So if I don’t respond, I’m so sorry. The best way to get an actual short response from me is on Instagram. My handle is my name: KasieWest
If you live close to me, I’d love to come to your book club (if it doesn’t conflict with previously scheduled events). I do have one rule though: No talking bad about my book until after I leave. When I’m there, a short presentation by me and then you will proceed to give a glowing review and/or ask questions. You will also share whatever goodies you are eating that night because let’s face it, that’s half (if not three-fourths) of the reason we’re at book club anyway.
Yes! And this makes me love you. I actually have an arrangement with a local Indie bookstore here in my hometown called Petunia’s Place. Call them to request a signed/personalized copy. Please allow a little extra time due to the fact that….you know….I have to drive over there and personalize it and stuff.
I answer to ‘Kasie’ ‘Cassie’ and ‘Hey you’ but the right pronunciation is K-C. As in KC and the Sunshine Band or Casey at the bat or any other really old references that nobody knows anymore.
Yes, but when we met he told me he was 6’9″ and I’m still angry that he lured me in under false pretenses.
Good question. Those books, that came out over twelve years ago, are now out of print. I have gotten my rights back however! Yay! And I plan on editing and updating them some time in the future and putting them out again. This is at the bottom of my very long list of projects though, so it might be a while.
